Oklahoma City, OK Engagement (Dylan & Laiken)

[Written by Laiken]

"On February 23rd, our practice got out early, which was a rare occurrence. As any high school girl would, I walked over to the other gym with my teammates to see the boys team scrimmage. They were scrimmaging some town I had never heard of; Roff. I stuck around the entire time, knowing a few of us wanted to take the floor after they were finished to get some shots up. To my surprise I caught the eye of one of the players from the opposing team. (As I get older I understand how small the world is, and how much smaller it is if you played sports.) One of my guy friends happened to know a guy on that team; the one who was interested in knowing me. He says, β€œDude, I have to know who the redhead is.” Later that night I got a text from a number I didn't recognize...it was Dylan. He had introduced himself and we started texting, until my mom told me that I didn't need to talk to some boy I didn't know.

Fast forward 5 years: Dylan and I had both ended our collegiate careers. Dylan played basketball and I played soccer. We earned our Bachelors, and were about to take a huge step outside of the lives we had known for so long: or so we thought. Our story continued on a basketball court when Dylan was named the Coach of the university where he played. On December 22nd, Dylan asked for my hand in marriage. He planned a date night consisting of dinner and a movie. To my complete surprise he got down on one knee. Tears and laughter were shared, and I said "YES!"  Needless to say, I didn't take my mom's advice to stop texting him that day (sorry mom). Now, here we are 8 years later, and it's finally getting close to meeting him at the alter."
